Theresa Hicks, Operations Manager
Theresa Hicks is ISI's Operations Manager, Conservator, and Archaeologist. Theresa
Hicks is a Registered Professional Archaeologist with 9 years of archaeological experience.
Ms. Hicks served as the underwater archaeologist for the Shirley Plantation
Wharf Complex Survey. This project involved a phase II archaeological survey along 2,000 feet of
shoreline, including sonar and magnetometer surveys of the adjacent river.
Ms. Hicks completed her M.A. from East Carolina University in 2012 with concentrations
in Artifact Conservation and Maritime Archaeology while also completing a year internship
at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh. In early 2014 she directed the
conservation of sixty-two shipwreck artifacts for Mackinac State Historic Parks,
including compound artifacts such as a ship's steam whistle, wheel, and rudder. She specializes
in the cleaning and removal of metalic and organic stains from wood, paper, and ceramics as well as
the preservation and stabilization of all types of wooden artifacts.
